Chiropractic - more than just back pain

Most people associate Chiropractic treatment with back problems and for over 100 years Chiropractors have been treating the underlying cause of symptoms associated with back pain. It is one of the most debilitating of conditions and a common reason for visiting a health care professional. Back pain leads to many days of lost work each year and can range in severity from minor discomfort to severe pain.

Headache and neck pain are two other reasons why people commonly visit Chiropractors. Neck pain can have many different causes. The symptoms may range from mild discomfort to burning pain and the condition can be acute or chronic.  Apart from obvious trauma or injury, it can be related to bad posture, over-use, or prolonged periods spent in an unnatural position. Using a computer for extended periods of time, or falling asleep in an awkward position are common factors in the onset of neck pain and stress can also be a contributor.

Headaches are another major health concern and the reason why a large number of people visit a Chiropractor.

There are many different types of headaches and the pain can last from hours to days. It is important to exclude organic reasons for headaches, due to underlying medication conditions and  if your Chiropractor  feels that your condition needs more investigation you will be referred to another health care professional.

Many headaches are caused by irritation to the nerve supply to the head and neck and sometimes the body's response is to tighten surrounding muscles in an effort to protect the area and correct the problem.
